Everyone who has ever tried to lose weight and keep it off knows that it is a very hard thing to do. In fact, nothing can be closer to the truth than to say that weight loss is hard. So it’s no wonder that when one weight loss company or another comes up with their new, miracle breakthrough weight loss pill that will simply melt the fat off while you sleep, regardless of what you eat, people can’t wait to make their three easy payments of only $29.95 while feverishly awaiting the arrival of their weight loss “dream come true”.

But, is it really a dream come true, or just merely a weight loss nightmare? As most people know, there have been countless numbers of products like this on the market that make outrageous claims of monumental weight loss in very little time with little or no effort on your part. Most people also know that not one of these products has ever lived up to their claims, and that a good deal of these products have also been known to yield dangerous side affects (fen/phen and redux for example). So why is it that weight loss companies continue to bombard us with new products every year that are no better than last year’s products?

The weight loss industry is a $30 billion dollar per year industry that is solely based on attempting to convince the 65% of Americans who are overweight that weight loss not only doesn’t have to be that hard, but in fact, can be down right easy! The problem is, with countless companies out there “bending” the truth with very sketchy so called research and the falsehood of endorsements by “doctors”, sports stars and television and movie personalities, the general public is constantly hit with wave after wave of false hope.

Perhaps if the weight loss companies were more honest about what really works long term and promoted products and methods that were in line with reality, more people would accept these realities and follow methods that actually work long term. There is a small problem with this however. That would be bad for the weight loss company’s bottom lines! They would lose millions of dollars and that is not what those companies share holders want to hear.

It’s all about business, not your health, not whether you lose weight and keep it off, not whether you’re happy with the product in the end, just about business and that means nothing but bottom line. So, with the weight loss companies simply telling the public only what they want to hear, there is very little hope.

Research has shown that 95% of people who do lose weight usually gain it back between six months and three years later. The FDA has declared that not one single weight loss company in the entire industry can show a record of long term success. It would be comparable to the home building industry if 95% of the new homes purchased fell apart and became unlivable within three years, but the public is completely oblivious to the enormous failure rate of the weight loss industry.

There are, sadly, only a few weight loss companies out there that base there methods on things that have been proven to work such as balanced diet and exercise but their voices are drowned out by all the “quick fix” fads and gimmicks that are out there. losing weight weight loss diet

Turbo Charge Your Weight Loss With These Diet Tips

Use these tips to turbo charge your weight loss program.

Take it one pound at a time:

Don’t get overwhelmed by how much weight you need to lose. Just take baby steps in the right direction and you’ll be amazed at your progress when you look back. You didn’t gain your weight overnight, so it will take time to lose it all.

Weekly weigh in:

Only measure your results and weigh yourself once a week to give your body time to make adjustments.

Share your journey:

Find a friend to lose weight with and become each other’s coach. Check in several times a week to help each other stay on track.

The scale is not the final word:

Don’t get discouraged when your progress seems to be slow according to your bathroom scale. Instead, measure your results with a tape measure-it will give you much more reliable and encouraging feedback.

Shop when you’re full:

Only shop for food when you are not hungry to avoid buying foods you may regret later.

Set reachable goals:

If you know you need to get more exercise, begin with a manageable goal of, say, walking 10 minutes a day that you know you can achieve. Then build your self-esteem by achieving the small goals you set yourself.

If you are thinking about using a weight loss supplement to help you lose weight, think again. The majority of all non-prescription weight loss medications are simply diuretics – they simply drain your body of water weight, which you quickly put back on.

To give you an illustration of how futile a weight loss supplement can be, imagine a diet which allowed you to eat a cheese burger and two slices of pizza for lunch, followed by steak and potatoes for dinner, and an evening snack of cookies and chips. If such a diet really worked, EVERYONE would be doing it.

Losing weight isn’t about taking a pill. If you ate the diet mentioned above on a regular basis, do you really think a pill could turn a cheese burger into something healthy? What does this mean? Their products sell well because of the psychological impact weight loss supplements have on the consumer.

So, if weight loss supplements don’t work, what does work? The supplement companies have already given you a hint: eating a healthy diet. If you really want to lose weight, change your eating habits. But what do you eat? A high protein diet? A low fat diet? A Subway Sandwich?

The reason it is mentioned in this article is because it uses online software which allows you to actually generate menus which tell you exactly what to eat. The authors of Fat Loss 4 Idiots even boast that you can lose 9 pounds in 11 days!

I was a little skeptical of Fat Loss 4 Idiots before I purchased it, but I knew it was a legitimate product because it offers very similar advice to what I read in Tom Venuto’s Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle. The main difference between the two ebooks is that Tom’s ebook is very detailed, while Fat Loss 4 Idiots is so simple that even an idiot can understand it

 A few months ago (March 2005), the American Diabetes Association announced the findings of the comprehensive Diabetes Prevention Program. The DPP was conducted at over 25 medical centers nationwide and involved thousands of participants who volunteered to have their habits monitored and to follow dietary and exercise recommendations. All participants had been diagnosed with ‘pre-diabetes’, a condition where the blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not yet in diabetic ranges. Untreated, more than half of those people diagnosed with pre-diabetes will develop full-blown type 2 diabetes within a decade.

For the study, the participants were divided into two groups. One half were given dietary recommendations. The other half got the same dietary recommendations, plus the recommendation to exercise at least 30 minutes daily, five times a week.

The results? Those who included daily exercise in their routines and followed the diet recommendations cut their risk of developing diabetes by 58%. The reason? Those who made the recommended changes in their lifestyle lost ‘a moderate amount’ of weight. Even more important, researchers found something that they didn’t expect. Those in the treatment group had a substantial chance of reducing their blood sugar level to normal, something that had been assumed was impossible.

Apparently, losing weight not only prevents a worsening of diabetes, it reverses the damage that obesity causes to the cells that produce insulin.

* Grain – 6-11 servings per day (Bread, Cereal, Rice, Pasta)

* Vegetables – 3-5 servings per day

* Fruits – 2-4 servings per day

* Milk – 2-3 servings per day

* Meat – 4-6 ounces per day (Meat, eggs, fish, dried beans, nuts and peanut butter)

* Fats, Sweets, Alcohol – Occasional treats

(Recommendations for portions are based on gender and activity level. For instance, a sedentary 40 year old woman needs fewer portions than an active 25-year-old woman.)

The results just keep coming in, but the message is clear: losing weight, maintaining a healthy weight and eating a balanced diet can help prevent most major health problems.
